Mini Storage: the solution for 1.2 million households with lack of space
Around 1.2 million (17 percent) of the seven million households in the Netherlands suffer from chronic lack of space. This is shown by the National Self-storage Research that was recently carried out by the InHolland University. In addition it appears that 27.8 percent of the Dutch have things in their house which they do not need immediately. Furthermore, there is often no space available for storing these goods. In the future, more and more Dutch will be confronted with lack of space. Following the implementation of the Buildings Decree in 2003, it is no longer necessary to build a storage shed for new residential buildings. But we still need somewhere to store our goods.
A solution for lack of space and a lot of possessions is Mini Storage. Consumers can rent a number of square metres for a relatively low price. They can use these storage units for storing things such as old toys, garden furniture, old clothes, camping equipment or cherished memories. Since 1998 – when the first Mini Storage company opened in the Netherlands – around 125,000 households have rented a storage unit. And that happens for all sorts of reasons. For example, when people decide to live together, when a relationship ends, when a removal or renovation is planned, or when mother or father has passed away and the house has to be emptied.
Renting a storage unit is actually very easy. After signing the rental contract, you get a key and a PIN code which gives you access to the storage unit seven days a week. Cameras record all activities in and around the Mini Storage branch. Live animals, poisonous, inflammable, illegal and perishable goods are prohibited.
Mini Storage is popular in the Netherlands.
At the moment there are around 156 Mini Storage branches in our country and this makes the Netherlands, after Great Britain and France, the largest Mini Storage country in Europe. ALLSAFE Mini Storage was one of the first companies to offer such facilities on the Dutch market. Now ALLSAFE Mini Storage has a national network of branches, which virtually covers the country.
