ALLSAFE supports Kenya

Life. That’s what it’s all about at the 4 Life Foundation. The life of people. In particular women and their children in Kenya in need of help. The foundation ensures that these people can support themselves. Because the small-scale projects of the 4 Life Foundation are achieving good results.

The 4 Life Foundation supports single-parent families in Kenya. Families were there is no father. Sometimes because he has left, mostly because he has died. Aids is a problem in Kenya. So, too, is poverty. The families on which the 4 Life Foundation concentrates are among the very poorest (monthly income of up to € 20.00). These are families where everything revolves around survival, also because generally the mother is also infected with the HIV-virus.

The four pillars of the 4 Life Foundation

The 4 in the name of the foundation does not only represent ‘for’ life, but also the four pillars on which the foundation bases its activities:
1. education for the children
2. paid work for the mothers
3. export of hand-made jewellery (www.sieraden4life.nl)
4. refuge for sick mothers and (imminent) orphans

ALLSAFE Self Storage has been a sponsor of the 4 Life Foundation for several years. ALLSAFE makes an annual donation that helps the 4 Life Foundation to set up small-scale projects and achieve good results.

Recently, three small children were adopted into the programme with the help of ALLSAFE. Their terminally-ill mother had been admitted to the hospital. The children had been left behind alone in the slums of Nairobi. With the help of the 4 Life Foundation, the children have been given safe accommodation in one of the family houses. The children are also attending school again. A school education means a future, no matter how difficult their background may be.

Friends of 4LF

The Friends of 4LF form a kind of business club. They act as the backbone of the foundation by providing financial help and advice. Members pay € 2,500 per year. Because the foundation is an ANBI organisation (a charity recognised under Dutch tax law), the donations are deductible, so the tax man contributes as well. Where possible, the foundation generates publicity for the friends or stimulates mutual collaboration. Friends can finance a specific project and adopt this as company, partly to show its social involvement.
