Small Bedroom Inspiration: Tips for Greater Bedroom Enjoyment
Create more space
Not everyone has the luxury of a large bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe, but a bedroom does not have to be big to be a comfortable and enjoyable place to spend time. With the tips below, you can get even more enjoyment out of your small bedroom!
Try to use the bedroom only as a bedroom
A bedroom can have many other functions, such as a study, dressing room or storage space. In a small bedroom, it is best to remove any items that are not related to sleeping. You may be able to store your ironing board or desk in another room. Old children’s books, holiday items and suitcases can even be stored outside your home altogether. In a secure and heated external storage unit, they stay out of the way while remaining within easy reach whenever you need them again.
Make effective use of colour and natural light
Using light colours on the walls, ceiling and furniture will make your bedroom feel more spacious. You do not have to keep everything white, as light pastel shades also work well.
For those who want to take it a step further, consider the direction from which natural light enters the room. Does sunlight enter your bedroom from the south? Choose light colours and pale tones with blue undertones. Southern light adds warmth to the blue, creating a bright and airy atmosphere.
For north-facing rooms, a neutral creamy white works best. For east-facing rooms, choose a light green, which looks particularly beautiful in the morning light. For west-facing rooms, white is the best option.
Cleverly concealed storage is your best friend
Your bedroom will look its largest when everything is neatly stored away and there are as few items lying around as possible. It is therefore best to keep everyday essentials neatly out of sight.
Nowadays, there are plenty of beds with built-in drawers, which are ideal for storing shoes or bedding. You can also use under-bed storage boxes. These are sturdy storage containers that can easily be rolled underneath your bed. Alternatively, you can take things a step further and place your bed on a raised platform, as shown below.
Small changes that make your bedroom feel more spacious
Consider using mirrors, shelves instead of cabinets and sliding doors instead of standard doors. All of these changes can make your bedroom feel and look more spacious.
Would you still like to use cabinets? Floating cabinets are the best option. Because they do not touch the floor, they create a much lighter and more open appearance.
Can you not do without a bedside table for your phone, water and books? Consider using a small wall-mounted shelf like the one shown here. It takes up very little space and looks just as stylish!
