Planning a Home Renovation? Here’s How to Get Through It Stress-Free

Planning a Home Renovation? Here’s How to Get Through It Stress-Free Moving tips

When you are renovating, you already have plenty on your mind. So what could be better than being able to get started without furniture and accessories getting in the way? We are happy to share some practical tips and tricks for a smooth and stress-free renovation.

Create more space

Having enough room to work is essential during a renovation. You do not want to squeeze into small corners or awkward positions when hanging a cabinet or laying a new floor. Items left in the room can also easily become damaged during the renovation.

You will probably already have enough to think about during this period, so it is important to make the room you are renovating as empty as possible. More space in your home means more space in your mind.

Take stock of your belongings

To create more space and prevent damage, divide your belongings into three groups:

  • Items you will not need for a while and want to store temporarily
  • Items you want to keep in the room during the renovation
  • Items you no longer need

To make the room as empty as possible, you can temporarily store your belongings in an external storage unit. This keeps them clean, safe and protected from damage.

If you decide to leave furniture and other items in the room, make sure they are properly wrapped or covered. Renovations often involve dirt, moisture and dust. Large pieces of furniture are best protected with plastic covers to prevent damage.

ALLSAFE offers special protective covers for chairs, sofas and mattresses, making it easy to keep your furniture clean and protected. You can also use dust sheets, plastic sheeting or blankets.

Place smaller items in clearly labelled moving boxes. This keeps everything organised and makes it easy to find what you need during the renovation.

A renovation is also the perfect opportunity to declutter your home and get rid of items you no longer use.

Create a lasting reminder of your renovation

Once the renovation is complete, it can be fun to include a small reminder of the project in your new interior.

For example, you could turn used wooden pallets into a wall-mounted shelf for candles, photographs, flowers and other small accessories. You could also transform pallets into a rustic coffee table by sanding, painting or varnishing them before attaching them together.
