The Man Cave: Your Own Space in the House

The Man Cave: Your Own Space in the House Moving tips

A place of your own at home where you can retreat for a while, or where you can enjoy a beer with friends, watch sports, play games and be loud without bothering your wife or girlfriend. Who doesn’t remember the Heineken advert featuring a real beer room with a large fridge? In this blog post, we explain how to create the ultimate man cave with the help of a few useful tips!

DECIDE WHICH ROOM WILL BECOME YOUR MAN CAVE

Do you have a room at home that does not really have a specific purpose, but mainly serves as a “storage room” for clutter, seasonal items or household belongings? Then this space can be perfectly transformed into your own man cave.

HOW DO YOU TURN THAT ROOM INTO YOUR MAN CAVE?

Take a good look at the items in the room you have chosen. Which ones do you actually use every day? Once you think about it, you will realise that 80% of what is in that room is only used once or a few times a year. Clear those items out!

Things you use more often can be stored in another room. Divide the remaining 80% into two piles: throw away or keep. Items you want to keep but do not use very often can, for example, be stored affordably outside your home in a storage unit. Think of it as an external cupboard or extra room that you can access whenever you want, while freeing up space at home for your man cave!

FRIDGE, POOL TABLE OR A FLAT-SCREEN TV WITH A PLAYSTATION OR XBOX: ONLY FOR MEN!

With the tips above, you can create an empty room or space in no time—great! Now you can start building your ideal man cave.

What do you need?

  • A well-stocked fridge with beer and tasty snacks
  • A cupboard for plates, glasses and other snacks
  • Comfortable sofas or chairs to relax in
  • A pool table and/or a table where you can play poker with your friends
  • A flat-screen TV with a PlayStation or Xbox: essential in the ultimate man cave!
  • A dartboard
  • A “Do Not Disturb” sign for the door, for the female residents of the house

With these essentials, your man cave is almost complete. But with a few small extra touches, your cave will become truly masculine! For example, you can easily turn an empty Jack Daniel’s bottle into a lamp: attach a fitting and lampshade to the bottle, and your lamp is ready. Add a few posters and some neon lighting, and you are all set to start planning those men’s nights at your place! Of course, not too often—if you want to keep your relationship intact ;).
