Sustainability

Corporate social responsibility means that we continuously look for ways to integrate as effectively as possible into society. This includes seeking the most sustainable methods of energy self-sufficiency, such as buildings that emit no CO².

All ALLSAFE Self Storage locations are equipped with motion sensors for lighting, so lights are only on when needed. Many locations are now CO² neutral. These sites are fully electric, equipped with heat pumps, demand-controlled ventilation, and low-temperature heating systems. We also use Cradle to Cradle materials in walls, tiles, and facade systems.

The ALLSAFE moving boxes and packaging available for purchase are sustainably manufactured: the plastic wrap is made from recycled material and is biodegradable.

GPR certification of ALLSAFE buildings

All these CO²-neutral locations achieve an average GPR score above 8.0. GPR building is a method to measure the sustainability of a building. It evaluates five themes to determine the building’s sustainability, expressed as a score between 0 and 10. A score of 6.0 corresponds to the standard building code. High GPR scores require minimizing the use of environmentally harmful materials, such as glass, aluminum, and ceramic materials.

We have also implemented special measures, including white reflective roofing, sunshades, and LED lighting. These help reduce heating and cooling demands. Insect hotels are placed on some sites to contribute to biodiversity.

Solar panels in the future

In June 2021, we successfully secured funding to install 41,250 solar panels over 77,000 square meters of roofing across several of our locations. The installation of solar panels is part of an extensive sustainability plan.

“In recent years, we have made significant strides in sustainability and will continue to do so in the coming years,” explains CEO Eric Stubbé. “We take every measure possible to operate as sustainably as we can.”

Ultimately, all ALLSAFE Self Storage locations aim to be CO² neutral. Within six years, we aim for at least 95% CO² neutrality.

Staff Wellbeing

Corporate social responsibility also involves looking after your colleagues. At ALLSAFE, we are therefore committed to promoting wellbeing. We firmly believe that an employee who feels mentally and physically fit is happy, performs at their best and is able to develop personally. Because everyone achieves this in a different way, we operate a personal wellbeing budget. Every ALLSAFE colleague can choose how to use this: for example, in the form of a gym membership, a personal trainer, a dietitian or something else.

In addition, ALLSAFE regularly organises sporting activities: casual sports with colleagues or training for an ALLSAFE challenge, such as the Amsterdam Marathon or the Strong Viking Run.

Room for Development in Kibera

ALLSAFE places great importance on corporate social responsibility. We believe that if you want to make the world a better place, you must invest in knowledge, and knowledge starts with the youth.

That is why ALLSAFE Care was created: a project by ALLSAFE and Stichting4Life that offers children and young people in the Kibera slum in Nairobi (Kenya) a future. A primary and secondary school have been established in Kibera, where children receive education and meals.

ALLSAFE has set up various fundraising initiatives to enable as many children as possible to attend school. Collection boxes are placed at our locations, and there is the recurring Climb4School expedition: a huge physical and mental challenge where ALLSAFE employees and partners raise money for this important cause! With treks along the Great Wall of China, Mount Kilimanjaro, and twice up Mont Blanc, this is a wonderful and meaningful initiative that has already raised hundreds of thousands of euros.
