ALLSAFE Care

ALLSAFE Care was created because ALLSAFE cares about development and wants to actively contribute in areas where opportunities are limited.

That’s why we, together with Stichting4Life, established the ALLSAFE Care project. So far, we have built and maintain two schools in the Kibera slum in Nairobi, Kenya. The ALLSAFE Aim Higher School (primary school) and the ALLSAFE Secondary School (secondary education) have been standing for several years and provide children with a hopeful future.

Stichting4Life has been active in Kenya for over 15 years, mainly in the Kibera slum, Nairobi. Stichting4Life has been supported from the start by ALLSAFE Self Storage. We contribute through buildings, furniture, educational materials, teachers’ salaries, and daily lunches for the students. The school lunch is often the only nutritious meal of the day for many of these children. For some children, it is even the reason they come to school!

Research has shown that each additional year of education increases future income by 8%.

For €75, one child can attend primary school for one year, and for €150, one child can attend secondary school. In Kibera, there are very few secondary schools, and most children are forced to stop their education after primary school.

The goal is not only to provide education but also to help students find a job so that they can generate their own income later in life. After secondary school, the students with the best results can continue to university. Other students have various options to learn a trade, start their own business, or enter the workforce.

The schools in the Kibera slum have been made possible through various initiatives:

• Monthly contribution from tenants: ALLSAFE asks every tenant to pay an extra €1 per month in rent. We double this euro. Hundreds of people are now participating, and the revenue for ALLSAFE Care is steadily growing!
• Collection boxes at the locations: This raises a few hundred euros annually.
• ALLSAFE Climb4School expeditions: In 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2019, ALLSAFE colleagues and partners took on the challenge of climbing Mont Blanc (twice), Kilimanjaro, and the Great Wall of China. Thanks to the success of these expeditions, more than 1,000 children can now attend primary and secondary school!

The ALLSAFE Schools already have a future, which we can continue to grow together!

ALLSAFE AIM HIGHER SCHOOL

• From a dilapidated chipboard shack to a proper building, complete with an extra floor
• From Year 1 to Year 5, plus nursery and up to Year 8
• With paid and trained teachers
• With a kitchen where meals are cooked every day for all 260 pupils
• Microcredit programme for parents
• Hygiene training

ALLSAFE SECONDARY SCHOOL

• A secondary school set up specifically for children leaving primary school
• Started with one class; now has four classes with 160 pupils
• Well-trained teachers
• Lunch provided for everyone every day
• A dedicated computer room and chemistry equipment

OVER STICHTING4LIFE

Stichting4Life has developed a unique aid concept based on four pillars:

• Work with fair pay for mothers
• Education for children: from school to work
• Support for orphans: from education to housing
• Export of local products to the Dutch market

This unique combination of work, education and trade delivers demonstrable results. Around 1,600 women and children are now taking part in Stichting4Life’s programmes. Children attending school, parents in work, teachers with paid jobs and school cooks. Further information: www.stichting4life.nl.
