Spring Cleaning Made Easy: 3 Simple Steps
Spring is coming: time for the big clean! But where do you start? And what do you do with the items you want out of the way? In this blog, you’ll find 3 steps and useful tips to make your spring cleaning organized and successful.

Step 1: Avoid chaos, work room by room
An organized spring clean only succeeds if you tackle one room at a time. Don’t start moving and cleaning things without a plan. The first step in your spring cleaning is deciding which rooms to tackle and in what order. For example, it’s not practical to start in the living room, then go to the attic, and then tackle the bedroom on the first floor.
Step 2: Make space for real cleaning
The second step is to clear out the room or push your belongings to one side. Only then can you scrub properly.
Now that you have space, you can vacuum or mop every corner. Take down the curtains, put them in the washing machine, and open the windows for some fresh air.
Step 3: Peace and space, also in your mind
Once the room is completely clean, the last step is deciding what goes back into the room. 80 percent of the items in your cabinets are not touched for a whole year and take up valuable space you could use better! Additionally, 4 percent of your items are bought twice because you often don’t know where things are. Sort everything into three groups:
- Items that stay – Things and furniture you use daily should be easily accessible. Furniture like sofas, beds, and tables, and everyday items like dishes and seasonal clothing belong in this group.
- Items you can throw away immediately – There are always things in your home you no longer need. Broken items you won’t repair, old magazines, or useless clutter can be discarded.
- Items you want to keep but not have at home – As mentioned above, 80 percent of your belongings go untouched for a year. Items like old children’s toys or dishes still have value: emotional, financial, social, status, or convenience. Seasonal items like winter clothes, Christmas decorations, winter sports gear, sleds, and skates won’t be used for months and take up valuable space.
Everything in this last group can be stored in an affordable ALLSAFE Self Storage unit so you have more space at home and don’t have to say goodbye to your belongings. You can rent storage from just 1 week and 1 m³ (fits 12 moving boxes!), making it accessible to everyone!
Extra tip: If you don’t want to rent storage but still need extra space at home, you can use mrBOX: your items in the cloud. Just like digital files in the cloud, you can have your physical items stored safely. mrBOX delivers boxes for you to fill with items you rarely use. They are securely stored, and when you need them again, mrBOX returns them to you. The app gives an overview of what is in each box, so you never lose track of anything.
If you apply these 3 steps to every room in your home, you can say you’ve completed a successful spring clean and enjoy your space again. Let the sun shine!
