This Is How You Can Live in a Tiny House Too!

This Is How You Can Live in a Tiny House Too! Living tips

A home measuring 6 by 2 metres: it is possible! The tiny house movement has been popular in America for quite some time, and more recently it has also been permitted in the Netherlands. There are many advantages to living in a tiny house: building costs are only around €35,000, you own fewer belongings, there is less cleaning and tidying to do, and the impact on the environment is smaller.

But how can you actually make the move to living in a tiny house? What should you do with all your valuable belongings, and how should you furnish your new home?

1. Think carefully about what you really need on a daily basis

Over the years, we tend to collect more and more belongings. But not everything is used every day or every week. Think, for example, of your winter sports gear or holiday suitcases. These are very useful when you need them, but for most of the year they remain untouched. When living in a tiny house, you will only bring the items you use daily or weekly. After all, there is simply not much room for your skis or roof box. You will probably not hang both your summer wardrobe and winter wardrobe in the same closet. In addition, sorting through your belongings can feel liberating; having too many things around you can create restlessness and make it harder to keep an overview.

That is why you should think carefully about what you use more often than once or just a few times a year. You can divide all your belongings into 3 categories:

  • Items you use often and that are useful in daily life
  • Items you do not use often, but still want to keep
  • Items you no longer use at all or that are broken

If you do this properly, you will notice that 80% of the things in your closet fall into the second category.

2. Store the less frequently used items somewhere else

As mentioned earlier, most of your belongings have value to you. After all, you have kept them for a reason. Even though they may not fit into your new home, that does not mean you have to get rid of them. You can store them all year round in a heated and secure unit at ALLSAFE Mini Storage. For as little as €1.40 per week, you can already store 10 moving boxes. That is enough space, for example, for an entire winter wardrobe! ALLSAFE Mini Storage has storage locations throughout the Netherlands, all with daily access. That way, you can always get to your belongings whenever you need them again.

3. Make efficient use of the available space in your tiny house

With limited floor space, you will need to be smart about the layout of your home. Below you will find tips and inspiring examples:

Even with a tiny house, you can have a covered veranda. Lovely for sitting outside on summer days!

In this example, you do not even get the feeling that it is a tiny house! Complete with bookshelves, a washing machine and a baby room.

A country-style interior can look beautiful. Keeping all the walls and furnishings light also makes the space appear larger.

Living in a tiny house also makes you more aware of the environment. You feel closer to nature. By creating a large sliding door in your home, nature is almost brought inside. Another advantage is that the natural light makes your home feel more spacious.

The same house as above: in a tiny house, creative use of space is essential, and clever storage solutions are a must. In this tiny house, a pull-out storage space has been created underneath a raised platform.
