Well-equipped for a camping holiday

Well-equipped for a camping holiday

The Dutch are true camping enthusiasts. Every year, 1.8 million people from the Netherlands set off with their tent, caravan or folding camper to visit their favourite campsites. We like to be well prepared for our holidays, which means bringing plenty of camping equipment. From kitchen utensils and folding chairs to sleeping bags and a foldable table. But how do you store everything conveniently after your holiday, so you can easily head off again next year? We looked into it and have put together four useful camping tips.

Tip 1: Check your car, caravan or tent

There is nothing more frustrating than car trouble, a flat tyre or even a leaking tent. Before you leave, check all your camping equipment for damage and make sure everything is still working properly. Want complete peace of mind before setting off? Have your car or caravan inspected by a garage or caravan service centre. That way, you can start your journey to your favourite campsite feeling relaxed and confident.

Tip 2: Use a packing list and store everything in one place

You often need a wide range of items when going on a camping holiday, such as an air mattress, foot pump, sleeping bag, kitchen equipment, washing line, hammer, torch, matches and more. There can be so many camping essentials that it is easier to create a packing list once, for example using the camping packing list on the ANWB website. By storing all your camping equipment together in one central place after your holiday, you will have very little preparation to do next year and can set off again in no time.

Tip 3: Make a campsite list

Before you leave, make a list of appealing campsites located along your route. Add their addresses and telephone numbers so you have all the necessary details to hand whenever you are ready for a stop or overnight stay.

Tip 4: Use plastic storage boxes

When camping, you may have to deal with moisture or pests. Use plastic storage boxes with tightly closing lids to store items such as kitchen equipment, books and clothing. These boxes are usually easy to stack in your car, tent or caravan. They also save time when loading and unloading.
