Feng Shui in the Bedroom: 5 Tips for a Better Bedroom Experience!

Feng Shui in the Bedroom: 5 Tips for a Better Bedroom Experience!

Your bedroom can serve several purposes: relaxation, sleep and romance. Naturally, the right atmosphere plays an important role. You can create this atmosphere by incorporating the Chinese practice of Feng Shui into your bedroom interior.

Feng Shui focuses on creating harmony by arranging your living environment in a way that allows positive energy, known as Chi, to flow as freely as possible throughout your home. Keep reading for plenty of bedroom inspiration!

1. Feng Shui in the Bedroom Starts with Decluttering

Feng Shui is all about allowing positive energy to flow freely. The first step is therefore to tidy and declutter your bedroom. Positive energy cannot move freely through a room that is filled with too many belongings and pieces of furniture.

Do you have a desk, exercise equipment or a cupboard filled with belongings in your bedroom? Move these items to another room in your home. According to Feng Shui principles, electrical appliances should also be kept out of the bedroom. They are believed to produce negative energy that can make it more difficult to relax.

To incorporate Feng Shui throughout your entire home, consider which belongings you do not use on a daily basis and store them elsewhere. This could include boxes filled with photo albums, seasonal clothing, old study books, golf equipment or skiing gear.

At ALLSAFE, you can rent an affordable and secure storage unit for these belongings. This will help prepare your home for an optimal flow of Chi.

2. Use Feng Shui Colours to Create Balance in the Bedroom

Colour also plays an important role when decorating your bedroom according to Feng Shui principles. The key is to create a good balance between warm and cool colours.

Too many cool colours, such as blue, grey and green, can create a cold and uncomfortable atmosphere. However, using too many warm colours may make it more difficult to sleep.

Do you want to add more romance to your bedroom? Introduce warm colours such as red, pink or lilac. For a peaceful and relaxing bedroom, choose lighter shades. Light blue is always a good option.

3. Position Your Bed According to Feng Shui Principles

Do you also feel uncomfortable when you cannot see the bedroom door and therefore cannot tell whether someone is entering the room? This is a natural feeling. We feel vulnerable when we cannot see what is coming.

This is why the position of your bed is important. Always position your bed so that you have a clear view of the doorway. However, avoid placing it directly opposite the door, as this can also create a feeling of vulnerability.

It is also best not to position your bed underneath a window. According to Feng Shui, this may cause your Chi to escape through the window, leaving you feeling tired when you wake up. When there is no alternative, use thick blackout curtains.

4. Place Matching Bedside Tables on Both Sides of the Bed

Balance is once again important with this tip. When two people share a bedroom, place two matching bedside tables on either side of the bed.

This creates visual balance and a sense of connection and togetherness. Did you also know that placing a shell, an attractive stone or another natural object in the bedroom can have an additional calming effect?

5. A Common Mistake: Family Photos and Plants in the Bedroom

Family photographs and plants are considered beneficial for the Chi in your living room. However, many people do not realise that, according to Feng Shui principles, they should not be placed in the bedroom.

Plants contain a great deal of Yang energy. This can create too much energy in the bedroom and may make it more difficult to sleep.

Photographs of family members looking directly at you can work well in the living room, but in the bedroom they may make you feel as though you are being watched. Naturally, this does not create a peaceful atmosphere.

Instead, decorate your bedroom with paintings or prints of peaceful landscapes and nature.

With these Feng Shui tips, you can easily arrange your bedroom in a way that allows positive energy to flow freely, helping you enjoy greater peace, relaxation and happiness in your home.
